I guess we should blame this one on Snoop Dogg and the rest of those damn rappers as well:
Rush Limbaugh: Barack The Magic Negro
This shows the results of when our society, actually black leaders, scapegoat's race issues with, justly called, issues of misogyny and vulgarity in rap music. Both are equally important, but I think it was wrong to take Imus's statement as an opportunity to fix what is wrong with rap music. I still don't see the connection. Very poor decision by the black leadership in the US as we all can see the results, nothing. It is hard enough to get this country to sit down at the table and talk about slavery and racism. So, it would be beneficial to African Americans if black leaders would actually do their job and challenge "Mr. Big Man" aka "The Man", like Martin and Malcolm, when these moments occur. Furthermore, it give opportunists like Rush to escalate the issue into something political and even more controversial.
But let us not single out rap music, let's throw in ALL music, movies, books, and so forth because misogyny, vulgarity, and down right lack of respect for women did not originate with rappers.
